Residents of Ilkley Care Home told to quit after critical report

People living in Red Gables in Parish Ghyll  Drive, Ilkley have been given 28 days notice to find new accommodation.

Many of the residents are vulnerable and suffering with conditions such as Dementia as the home specialises in the care of dementia.

This action follows an unannounced inspection by the Care Quality Commission in December 2013.

The CQC found that the home was failing to meet national standards in several areas:

  • Care and treatment was not planned and delivered in a way that ensured people’s safety,
  • adequate records weren’t kept.
  • There weren’t enough qualified staff
  • The home was heavily reliant on agency staff

The report quoted one agency staff person as calling the situation “chaotic”.

A member of staff who wished to remain anonymous said “It is absolutely dreadful what is going on. What I have seen is heart-breaking.”” Queensland Care, the company which owns Red Gables, also own Homecroft in Victoria Avenue, Ilkley, and The Pines Nursing Home in Harrogate, and provides home care.
