The Orchid View Care Home Review- Can Residents and Families Claim For Abuse and Neglect?

Can Residents and Families Claim for Abuse and Neglect suffered by residents at the Orchid View Care Home In Sussex?

The Serious Case Review into care home abuse and neglect at the Orchid View Nursing Home in Surrey described the care there as ‘truly appalling’

Five elderly people died as the care they had received was described in the review as ‘institutionalised abuse’

The Coroner described the care provided to residents as ‘suboptimal’ and the catalogue of abuse and mistreatment included:

  • wrong doses of medication
  • beds left soiled
  • altering of medical records and covering up of errors
  • patients underfed and locked in their rooms
  • calls for help not answered in busy period

In total the Serious Case Review provided over 3o recommendations which it was hoped would mean that such abuses would not happen in the future.
