A North Yorkshire Farm Worker has described as devastating the effect on him of a farm accident where he was crushed by hay
He was moving bales from a 23 feet high stack when they fell on him leaving him permanently disabled.
The farm owner who was responsible was fined £16000. The Company -Pockmor Ltd of Driffield East Yorkshire admitted breaches of farm health and safety.
The Farm Worker Mr Teale had to use a loader to remove the hay bales but this had no cage to protect him against falling objects
The Health and Safety Executive found the system of working inherently unsafe after an investigation.
Mr Teale described his life after the farm accident as simply an existence not a life as his whole life had been spent doing physical work which was not now possible.
Mr Geoff Fletcher, from the HSE, commented: “This was a preventable incident that has had a permanent life-changing impact on a previously fit and hard-working man.”
The company was ordered to pay £4,500 in costs at York Crown Court.
